How to Avoid Aggressive Drivers

How to Avoid Aggressive Drivers

Aggressive driving results from a variety of dangerous driving acts such as speeding, going through a red light to following other cars too closely. Drivers become irritated from crowded roads, but the source of aggressive driving lies within the driver’s actions and attitudes. Motorists need to evaluate their own behavior to stem the possibility of aggressive driving.

Plot the Drive

The drive and its purpose should be planned before beginning. Preparing for the trip gives a driver focus instead of driving in a haphazard or rushed manner to reach a destination at a certain time. The frustration of not allowing enough time could lead to rapid driving. Organizing the trip allows for stops for gas purchases, detours or bad weather. Plans should also include preparing for items to be brought on the trip.

Being Influenced by the Behavior of Other Drivers

It is easy to be affected by the actions of another driver who might cut in or use the brake unpredictably. The driver may think that he is the target of the erratic driving, but most likely, the other driver was distracted by something within the car or by using a cell phone.

Getting Enough Sleep

Road rage can be triggered by lack of sleep, which can cause people to be irritable, easily annoyed and angry. Most adults should get eight hours of sleep to be effective drivers.

Using the Drive Time to Analyze Issues

Trying to use the drive time to solve problems can be distracting and dangerous along with driving rapidly to relieve stress. A frustrated driver can turn the hurtling car into a weapon.

Anger is Poisonous

Individuals who grow angry quickly are more prone to health issues such as heart attacks, strokes, and depression. If a person resorts to anger, it can result in road rage. It is better to walk away from a stressful situation.

Relax While Driving.

Reduce stress while driving by relaxing the grip on the steering wheel and stretching the hands. Use the cruise control or stop after driving several hours to stretch and take a break. Clean off the window so that it is easier to see the road ahead.

Evaluate Your Driving

Drivers can assess their driving by either taking a class or analyzing their behavior while driving. Drivers should consider whether they tailgate other cars, drive at excessive speed, honk at other drivers who are infuriating, yell at other drivers and change lanes excessively. These are examples of aggressive driving.

Demonstrate Compassion While Driving

Drivers can stay calm by showing other drivers consideration while driving a car. These actions can include allowing a person to turn or merge. It is better to act toward other drivers as they would like to be handled.
